I've seen a few relationships fall because of situations like this, Yes, he might reluctantly agree, which it sounds like he has. How long have you and your BOYFRIEND been dating? I also see where you mention that there will be a third party sharing the house. Ok, I'm going to play devils advocate here. (this first video is a video of him screaming, it is as loud as he gets) With that said, I will post a few videos of my Rose Breasted Cockatoo, Bubby. Do a lot of research before-hand, and I suggest too that you spend time with each Cockatoo specie mentioned, that way you can get to know them, their personalities, and you may be even lucky enough to hear them scream and you will know how loud they are. Diet is also another big thing, especially with Rose Breasted Cockatoo’s who are prone to fatty tumors, so they need a varied diet with lots of fresh veggies, fruit, and grains, sprouts, pellets (optional) and so on. They need tons of toys (Bubby loves chewing wood) to keep them occupied as well as lots of foraging opportunities and out of cage time and one-on-one time, at least a few hours a day, if not more. (triple as loud as the smaller Cockatoos) Also, you need to take your neighbors into consideration, what if you get a Cockatoo and it screams a lot during the day? The neighbors may complain about it. If you are not one to like loud screeching, I wouldn’t recommend a Cockatoo, especially the large ones. Yes he is loud, but he doesn’t scream a lot, only if he is excited and he is hanging off of something or playing, it lasts only a few minutes anyways. he loves and adores all the attention he can get and he fluffs his head and stretches his neck out for kisses and scritches all the time. He is absolute sweet heart, very social, friendly, playful and funny. I have a Rose Breasted Cockatoo, Bubby, he is 9 months old and I adopted him a few months ago. I think Goffin’s Cockatoo and Rose Breasted Cockatoo’s are a great choice, if you were to prefer to get a smaller Cockatoo. They can be very difficult to tame if they are parent reared. Just make sure that whatever one you get it is hand raised. They are very intelligent and very clear talkers. They actually make more noise than my 6 Sulphur Crested Cockatoos.Īnother good one is a Short Billed Corella (Bare Eyed Cockatoo) about the same size as the Galah but they are the best talkers of the whole Cockatoo family, the males being the better talkers. They can be a bit noisy when you get them in a group. She has a very sweet nature and loves head scratches. I just sold her little sister to my Chiropracter and they love her. I still have one tame female that I bred and hand raised myself. It was the first hand raised bird I had over 40 years ago. I have 7 Rose Breasted (we call them Galah's) and I breed and hand raise them. I have had nothing to do with Moluccan's so I can't give an opinion of them. Very pretty birds but they can get a bit agressive at sexual maturity. I have hand raised Leadbeater's and owned them, we call the Major Mitchell's.
